Scotland’s leading motor neuron disease charity to host second research event in Aberdeen

MND Scotland will return to Aberdeen later this month to host a free and interactive research learning event at the Legends Lounge, Pittodrie Stadium, on Tuesday 23 September 2025, from 2pm to 5pm, thanks to support from Aberdeen FC.

The Lived Experience and Researcher Network (LEARN), organised by MND Scotland and supported by Aberdeen FC, brings together people affected by motor neuron disease (MND) and local MND researchers.

It is an opportunity for attendees to hear presentations from MND researchers; take part in open discussions with MND researchers and people affected by MND; participate in sessions facilitated to build relationships between attendees and researchers; and have opportunities to learn about current MND research.

The LEARN event will explore some of the latest developments in MND research for those affected by the disease and provide an opportunity to build relationships between those with lived experience and researchers to make sure that research reflects the needs of people with or affected by MND.

Claire Duffus volunteered at the LEARN Aberdeen event in 2024:It was amazing to meet so many inspiring people.

My dad was sadly diagnosed with MND in February 2024, so listening in to what researchers are working towards makes you realise how hard they are working to achieve the goal of a cure.

I enjoyed speaking with the researchers and having discussions with people affected by MND. It made you feel that you’re not alone.

I will be volunteering again at the LEARN Aberdeen, and I’m looking forward to hearing what the researchers have been working on over the past year”.

MND Scotland has been working closely with Aberdeen FC and will together welcome the MND community to Pittodrie Stadium for the upcoming LEARN event later this month.

Across all LEARN events, there will be opportunities for people with MND, carers, family and supporters to meet and engage with local MND researchers, to learn more about their work.

At the Aberdeen event, attendees will hear from presenting researchers Dr Fergal Waldron, Dr Hazel Allardyce and Tatiana Langerova, all from the University of Aberdeen.

There are around 480 people in Scotland currently living with MND.

MND Scotland invites those interested in this research learning event to hear more about the contribution in the fight against MND.

LEARN Aberdeen will take place at the Legends Lounge, Pittodrie Stadium, on Tuesday 23 September 2025, from 2pm to 5pm. Event details (including information about parking, accessibility, and how to register) can be found here.

The online registration link can also be accessed here.

Also taking place in the football stadium’s car park on the same day is a fundraising Firewalk. Full details on how to register can be found here.
