We’d like to say a huge congratulations to our friends at the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation for winning the People’s Choice Award 2020.
We’re very proud that this year’s SCVO Scottish Charity Awards saw three MND nominations, recognising the incredible work being done in our community to support families affected by MND in Scotland and power vital research that is taking us closer to a cure.
Our chairman, Lawrence Cowan and Euan MacDonald, founder of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Research and Euan’s Guide, were both shortlisted in the Charity Champion category. Although they didn’t win, Euan was given a well deserved special commendation on the night – congratulations!
We are thrilled that the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which was also nominated for Charity of Year, has won the People’s Choice Award, which was decided by a public vote.
Founded by rugby legend Doddie Weir OBE, the foundation has donated £280,000 to MND Scotland’s grants programme, to help families in Scotland who are struggling financially because of MND, and alongside MND Scotland and the Euan MacDonald Centre has helped fund the pioneering MND clinical drug trial MND-SMART.
Jill Douglas, CEO of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, said “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award and would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to vote for us. It is just amazing to be able to share this with the thousands of people who have supported us since our launch in November 2017. Doddie continues to inspire us every day and we are determined to do all we can to help rid the world of motor neuron disease and help patients who are given this terrible diagnosis.”
Lawrence Cowan, Chairman of MND Scotland, said “I am honoured to have been nominated alongside so many amazing charities, and it was a privilege to be part of such a special evening celebrating the successes we have seen across our sector in the past year. I’d like to extend my congratulations to all the winners and nominees, particularly to Doddie and Euan. This year people in the MND community have moved mountains in the names of those they love, and I’m very proud this work is being recognised.”
