We are delighted to announce that MND Scotland is investing a quarter of a million pounds to build a brand new, bespoke accessible lodge, as a part of our accessible holiday service.
The state-of-the-art disabled-friendly lodge will begin construction towards the end of 2018 and has been specially designed with MND in mind.
The lodge will open in March 2019 and will replace the charity’s Lang Break holiday caravan which will close permanently in October 2018. MND Scotland also offers an accessible holiday chalet near Oban.
The new lodge will be set on the scenic Clayton Caravan Park, in the beautiful Eden Valley in North East Fife, and will be situated just minutes from St Andrews and the Fife coast.
It aims to provide families affected by MND, and other disabilities, with a chance to take a break from their normal routine and to enjoy a break together.
Craig Stockton, MND Scotland’s Chief Executive, said: “I’m delighted to reveal that MND Scotland is investing a quarter of a million pounds into our accessible holiday service for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
“Due to the physical progression of MND, there are often barriers to families taking a break they may desperately need.
“That’s why the new Clayton Lodge has been purpose designed to prioritise space and comfort and will be fitted with an array of helpful adaptations suitable for people with MND and other disabilities.”
The new lodge will include:
- Full wetroom with Clos-o-Mat Toilet and Tilt-In-Space shower chair
- Ceiling tracking hoist (bedroom to wetroom)
- Portable hoist with universal slings
- Fully adjustable bed with Medi-Pro mattress
- Second bathroom with over bath shower
- Riser Recliner chair
- Transit wheelchair
- Dishwasher, washer & dryer
- Blackout blinds in bedroom for those with a disability
- Equipment charging area
- Exterior wrap-around decking and access ramp
- Car parking
The lodge will include a sofa bed and second bedroom, with two sets of bunk beds, allowing for the lodge to sleep seven in total.
All of our accommodation can be booked by anyone, however those affected by MND will receive a discount and may also be able to receive a Time Out Grant from MND Scotland to put towards the costs.
Time Capsule
As a part of the official opening in March 2019, we are planning a time capsule to be burried alongside the new Clayton Lodge.
A time capsule is a sealed container, including objects and messages, which is destined to be opened decades in the future.
We’d like to fill our time capsule with messages capturing the experiences of people affected by MND and their hopes and dreams for the future. It is our hope that when the capsule is someday opened we can reflect back on how far we’ve come in our journey to cure MND.
If you’d like to include your message in the Time Capsule, please email your message to us at communications@mndscotland.org.uk under the subject ‘Time Capsule’. We will then share a selection of your entries online.
