MND Awareness Week is on the 19th- 25th June 2017, with Global MND Awareness Day on Wednesday 21st June.
As usual we’ll be trying to spread as much awareness across the country as possible, of what MND is and how it affects people here in Scotland and across the world.
This year we are thrilled to be the ScotRail Alliance’s charity partner, so during MND Awareness Week we’ll be teaming up to spread awareness at stations across the country. You can join us on our #JourneyToACure.
How you can help
- We’ll have teams of volunteers at ScotRail Alliance stations across the country who will be handing out information, badges and cornflower seeds, and bucket collecting throughout the week. Get in touch if you want to volunteer too.
- If you see us in your local station please come and say hello. Any loose change for our collecting cans would also be welcome.
- Share your personal journey with MND by getting in touch with our team at communications@mndscotland.org.uk or call 0141 332 3903. You can also share your story on social media using #MyMNDJourney and tag us @MNDScotland
- In the run up to Awareness Week we will be auctioning off a go on the ScotRail Alliance’s state-of-the art driver training simulator.
- You can also help by donating £5 to MND Scotland. Just text JOURNEY to 70660. Don’t forget to claim the GiftAid!
What else is happening?
Shine a Light on MND
We’ve been asking local councils and companies to ‘Shine a Light on MND’ for Awareness Week by lighting landmarks and buildings up in blue. We already have the SSE Hydro, Inverness Castle, the Kelpies, Oran Mor, Hamilton Town Hall, and many others confirmed! If you have any contacts that might be able to help with this, please let us know, and if you seeing anyone Shining a Light on MND, send your photos to us or share them on social media.
Scottish Parliament Reception
On the evening of Global MND Awareness Day, Wednesday 21st June we will be hosting a reception in the Garden Lobby of the Scottish Parliament, with longstanding supporter, Christina McKelvie MSP. The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, will also be a guest speaker at the event.
Our aim is to raise awareness of MND in the Parliament and ensure MSPs and Scottish Government Ministers know how they can support people affected by MND across Scotland. We have sent invites to people with MND across Scotland and hope to see you there. You’ll have an opportunity to meet your local MSPs on the night to raise issues that are important to you.
If you have any questions about the reception, please get in touch with our Policy Officer, Colette McDiarmid – colette.mcdiarmid@mndscotland.org.uk or 0141 332 3903.
