Fernando Ricksen Tribute Match

MND Scotland is a beneficiary of the match, with the proceeds being split equally between Fernando, his daughter Isabella, the Rangers Charity Foundation, and MND Scotland.

It was clear that many people were shocked by how MND has affected Fernando, but his spirit and determination to fight the disease was abundantly clear.

He was given a guard of honour onto the pitch before kicking off the match, and was carried by former teammates and friends in an emotional lap of honour after the final whistle. Fittingly, he was also named man of the match.

Iain McWhirter, Head of Fundraising and Volunteering at MND Scotland, commented, “We are very grateful to have been chosen to benefit from the game, and we’ll use these funds to continue providing the best possible care and support to people like Fernando who are living with MND.

“The support that Rangers fans have shown MND Scotland has been fantastic.  Fans have been inspired by Fernando Ricksen and are not only going along to Sunday’s match, but taking part in zip-slides, marathons and organising their own fundraising activities. We have been truly overwhelmed and are thankful for their support.”
