NHS Scotland has approved the use of Attend Anywhere – a new approach to healthcare in Scotland.
Attend Anywhere is an online tele-health platform that empowers people with MND to consult their doctor or nurse via video calls from the comfort of their own home.
Some MND clinical teams in Scotland are already trialling Attend Anywhere. The system is completely optional and people with MND will be given an appointment the same as if they were going to visit their doctor or nurse in person.
The main difference is that, instead of making a journey to an appointment, users can simply load up their device and enter a virtual waiting room once their device is set up.
Attend Anywhere also gives users the ability to type while on a call. This is particularly useful for those with speech difficulties.
What do I need?
- Broadband internet access
- A device with a camera (computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone)
- Google Chrome web browser (on a computer or Android device) or an app on most smartphones and tablets
Judith Newton, National Nursing Lead for MND, said: “This is a game changer for people who are finding it difficult to come in to clinic. There are no parking issues and no hassles with traffic – you can literally sit at home and speak to your doctor or nurse as if you were in the clinic.
“We have been using Attend Anywhere for a number of research studies and this method of follow up is exceptionally good. The quality of image and sound is excellent and it means we can reach out to people who are not necessarily living near a hospital.”
