Statement on social media fair use

MND Scotland shares information on social media that is relevant to people affected by motor neuron disease (MND), including those with a diagnosis, their friends and family.

Our social media channels (including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube) are a place to positively engage with our stakeholders, build online communities, increase awareness of MND and encourage fundraising initiatives.

On our social media channels, we share personal stories and campaigns, as well as research news and information about the support services we offer. We do not offer direct support services or peer support via social media. For support, please get in touch with support@mndscotland.org.uk.

We welcome, and encourage, engagement on our social media channels while expecting everyone to be respectful and recognise that their opinions may differ from others. In order to protect our community, we retain the right to remove any comments we deem to be inappropriate, including but not limited to:

  • Targeted personal attacks on members of the online community, the MND community, members of the MND research community, or MND Scotland staff (including, but not limited to, bullying, intimidation, harassment and/or accusation)
  • Hateful, threatening commentary or anything that incites violence
  • Profanity, insensitive or inappropriate content
  • Debate that becomes argumentative or not constructive
  • Advertising or spam, including excessive commenting on a thread or posting the same content on multiple threads
  • Misinformation
  • Content about questionable or illegal activities
  • Unsolicited bulk or repeat messages (spam or flooding)
  • Off-topic, irrelevant and/or redundant comments (this includes promotion of events, groups, pages, websites, organisations, fundraising initiatives and activity not relevant to MND Scotland)
  • Comments that promote or sell healthcare products, services, drugs or vitamins and/or promote false claims about MND and/or products/services related to the treatment of MND
  • Comments that violate someone’s privacy or intellectual property

MND Scotland will maintain a culture of respect and equality. We have zero tolerance for abuse, including discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment, not only for MND Scotland staff and volunteers, but for anyone who is involved with our charity.
