Strathclyde Park Fun Run raises over £65,000 for MND

The 2017 MND Fun Run has raised over £85,000 for MND Scotland!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Fun Run at Strathclyde Park on 13th May. A great day was had and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers and supporters.

One participant managed the 6-mile route THREE TIMES on his trike! Owen McGhee, 78, from Bridge of Weir, was diagnosed with MND almost 20 years ago. Owen, after a 30-year career with IBM, retired from his role as CEO of Young Enterprise Scotland when he was 60 years old because he started to experience symptoms of MND in 1998.

Owen, who was a keen runner and rower, said “My left leg felt a bit strange and my running slowed down. I was also having some difficulty with my speech. Since then my deterioration has been gradual.

“I have been incredibly lucky and am still capable of doing most things I want to do. I gave up competitive rowing only three years ago. I still drive and do most of the cooking in our home – although I would never win Masterchef!

I was given five years’ maximum before I would ‘succumb’ to MND. That was 19 years ago. I know everyone fighting MND may not be as lucky as me but then again, they may just be!”

If you missed out, you can sign up for our Holyrood Park Fun Run on Sunday 27th August by visiting.
