MND Scotland’s Chief Executive Steps Down

After 20 years of dedicated service to both the cause and the organisation, Craig Stockton is leaving MND Scotland to explore new challenges.

Craig joined the charity in 2000 as Chief Executive, leading the day-to-day management of the organisation. He was also Vice Chair of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, is a past director of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care, and was part of the group that produced the General Medical Council’s guidance for doctors on ‘Treatment and Care towards the end of Life’. Craig has had considerable involvement in the development and review of Neurological Health Service Standards and is a founding member of the Neurological Alliance of Scotland, currently sitting on their Executive Board.

Adrian Murphy, Chair of MND Scotland’s Board of Trustees, said: “I would like to thank Craig for all that he has done to lead this organisation and how he has worked to raise awareness of this terrible disease across Scotland.

“This is a period of great challenge, change and opportunity for MND Scotland and our priority is – as it always has been – to serve and work with those who are living with motor neurone disease. We are committed to fighting against motor neurone disease and finding a cure. We will continue to do this with the incredible support of our fundraisers, donors, volunteers, staff and partners.”

Craig Stockton, former Chief Executive of MND Scotland, said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to have led this charity over the last 20 years.  During that time I have met many incredible, committed and  brave people.  I have seen a number of improvements in the care and support available to those affected by MND and new advancements in research.  I take comfort in knowing that although we haven’t found a cure for this terrible disease, through the work of the charity, we have been able to improve the quality of life for so many patients and carers.  I am extremely proud to have been associated with the achievements and advancements made within the MND field over the last two decades and am confident that there is much more to come in the near future.”

As Craig steps down from his role at MND Scotland, Iain McWhirter, the charity’s Head of Fundraising, will act as interim Chief Executive.
