Executive
Leadership Team

After almost four years as Director of Research at MND Scotland, I have stepped up to take on the role of Interim CEO. My background is in neuroscience research, where I have 19 years experience as a researcher and a further 15 years experience as the coordinator of a large neuroscience organisation at the University of Edinburgh.  My current roles are, along with other senior staff, to steward the charity so that we are here to provide support to, and advocate for, people with MND throughout Scotland, as well to oversee the funding we have invested in vital research into MND.

I’ve worked with MND Scotland since 2013, starting out as a Welfare & Benefits Advisor and working my way up through the organisation. In August this year, I took on the role of Head of Support Development, leading the delivery of services for people affected by Motor Neuron Disease. I bring over 27 years of experience in supporting people through challenging circumstances, with a background in Money Advice and Welfare Rights within Social Services and Community Mental Health Teams across Glasgow. I’m passionate about ensuring people living with MND and their families receive the right support at the right time and creating services that make a real difference.

I have been working in corporate and consumer PR and communications roles across in house and agency for over 20 years. My experience encompasses press and media relations, public affairs, financial PR and corporate communications, issues management, B2B and B2C communications, internal communications, corporate social responsibility, events, and brand and marketing initiatives. Since joining MND Scotland, I have also taken on responsibility for heading up the fundraising team and support the team to deliver the charity’s objectives. Across communications and fundraising, we are determined to raise awareness and tell the stories of people living with and affected by this brutal disease.

She won the Silver Medal at the Venice Film Festival for the film Wonderland and has received a BAFTA for her work on the beloved children’s television series Balamory. She has also been honoured with The Lord Provost of Glasgow Award for Services to the Arts.

Through the ambassadorial role, Juliet wants to ues her voice and platform to raise awareness of MND and the support available from MND Scotland.

Marc Millar

Originally from Dundee, Marc Millar is an ex-professional footballer. Now based in the Northeast of England with his family, Marc is delighted to be able to give back by working with MND Scotland in the Ambassador role.

Marc has experience of caring for a family member with motor neuron disease. He said: “Unfortunately, my immediate family has understood and experienced firsthand how tough and debilitating MND is. From diagnoses, my mum passed away just 18 months later. Initially we thought we dealt with the challenges relatively well and positively. However, in the last six months, the deterioration was rapid and certainly not a journey I would wish anyone to experience.

“Whilst the support locally was fantastic and hugely appreciated, MND Scotland cannot ever be thanked enough. A truly remarkable group of individuals always at hand with the correct level of empathy and understanding. So, to provide a small token of our family’s appreciation and become an Ambassador for MND Scotland is the least we can do.”
