Beeslack High School Students Awarded £3,000 from YPI Scotland Initiative for MND Scotland

MND Scotland is delighted to receive £3000 from a group of three students from Beeslack High School, Penicuik. Murray, Kirwin and Peter won the funding via the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Scotland (YPI) for their presentation about motor neuron disease and MND Scotland.

MND Scotland’s Head of Research, Dr Jane Haley MBE, visited Beeslack High School on Tuesday 24 May to hear Peter, Kirwin and Murray give their winning presentation and receive the cheque from them. The YPI funder, The Wood Foundation, provided £2750 of the award and the school generously contributed a further £250. This takes the total awarded to MND Scotland from the YPI initiative to £9,500.

YPI is the biggest independent initiative being delivered in Scottish education, with each school being responsible for directing a grant of £3000 to a local charity championed by its students, through a unique programme of teamwork, research, and competition.

Speaking on the award, Dr Jane Haley MBE said: ‘I was delighted to meet Murray, Kirwin and Peter, and listen to their excellent and very moving presentation, and find out more about MND Scotland’s personal connection with the students. Murray’s mum had motor neuron disease when he was three, and the charity was able to provide support for them during this difficult time.’
