Researchers are calling for people affected by motor neurone disease (MND) to share their experience and to help further our vital research.
A new research project, which is part-funded by MND Scotland, is seeking to better understand and develop the best multidisciplinary practice for people with MND in the UK.
A multidisciplinary team is a group of healthcare professionals who represent different areas of someone’s care, for example dieticians, speech and language therapists or neurologists. These professionals work together towards a common goal and to provide joined up care.
Led by researchers, Dr Jenny Preston (Consultant Occupational Therapist) and Professor Edward Duncan (Professor of Applied Health Research, University of Stirling), this study will help develop guidelines on how best to deliver this multidisciplinary team care in the UK to people with MND.
The researchers have already conducted two rounds of surveys with both health professionals and people living with MND, and are now looking for more input from people who have experience of MND.
How can you help?
The research team is holding an online event on Thursday 19th May 2022 to further discuss topics and answers which came through the first survey round, and are looking for people living with MND, and people who care for, or have cared for, someone with MND to share their expertise. You do not have to have taken part in the first round of surveys to take part in this group discussion.
This event will be run online from 11am to 3pm and will be attended by the research team, people with MND, carers and family members of people with MND, and clinicians involved in the multidisciplinary care of people with MND. Rest breaks will be included, and you are welcome to attend for part of the day.
If you have MND, or you care for or have cared for someone with MND, and would like to take part please register here. For more information about what is involved you can contact Dr Jenny Preston by emailing Jenny.preston@aapct.scot.nhs or call 01294 323040/07827233518.
