Princess Royal to open Clayton Lodge

We are delighted to reveal that MND Scotland patron, Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, will officially open MND Scotland’s new accessible holiday lodge on Thursday 4th July.

The Clayton Lodge is set on the scenic Clayton Caravan Park, in the beautiful Eden Valley in North East Fife, and is situated just minutes from St Andrews and the Fife coast.

The state-of-the-art disabled-friendly lodge has been specially designed with MND in mind and has already welcomed a number of guests since it was opened in April. The Clayton Lodge aims to provide families affected by MND, and other disabilities, with a chance to take a break from their normal routine and to enjoy a break together.

Due to the physical progression of MND, there are often barriers to families taking a break they may desperately need. That’s why the Clayton Lodge has been purpose designed to prioritise space and comfort and is fitted with an array of helpful adaptations suitable for people with MND and other disabilities.

The lodge features high-quality specialist disability equipment, such as a ceiling tracking hoist, a full wet room with Clos-o-Mat toilet and tilt-in-space shower chair, portable host with universal slings, a riser recliner chair, transit wheelchair, widened doors and hallways, with wrap-around external decking and ramps, amongst others.

If you would like to book a break at the Clayton Lodge, or our Tralee Bay Chalet near Oban, visit our Accessible Holiday Service webpage.

Attend the official opening

The opening of the lodge will be hosted by Princess Anne and guests will have the opportunity to meet HRH, have a tour of the lodge and are invited to join us for tea and coffee afterwards.

Places will be given on a first-come-first-served basis to people with MND, and carers and family members, so please get in touch if you would be interested in attending. You can call Mairi Hughes on 0141 332 3903 or email mairi.hughes@mndscotland.org.uk.
