MND Action Week

We are delighted to reveal some of our plans for MND Action Week, our brand new annual week of activity, which takes place from 17th – 23rd June 2019.

The profile of Motor Neurone Disease has never been higher, so this year we’re going further than ever before to build on that momentum.

During MND Action Week we will be launching our biggest ever direct fundraising appeal, for our supporters and members of the public, to help us end MND forever. This will join our new hard-hitting public awareness campaign.

We will also be taking MND Scotland on tour across the country, with a high-tech contactless giving experience, to spark conversations about MND and to ask members of the public to support the charity for the first time.

Imagine a world without MND

Our new campaign will use powerful video and images to show the public how MND can affect your ability to reach out and hold the ones you love, to read your child a bedtime story, or even to take a sip of water when you’re thirsty.

MND is unimaginable, but it’s going to take more than imagination to find a cure.

During MND Action Week we’re asking the nation to join with us to imagine a world without MND, and to support us in making that dream a reality.

We’ll be asking in the press; we’ll be asking people on social media to share our vision of a world without MND; we’ll be advertising throughout Scotland’s rail network thanks to the ScotRail Alliance; and we’ll be taking our message to the Scottish Parliament.

You can help by sharing our stories, and your own, with people you know. You can share our hope for a world without MND on social media.

You can also make a donation that will help find the treatments we need to slow, stop and reverse the effects of MND.

Every penny raised during MND Action Week will be used to fund cutting-edge research. Even by contributing a little, you can help a lot.

We’re taking MND Scotland on tour

We are excited to reveal that we are taking MND Scotland on tour across the country, for the first time ever, with a high-tech contactless giving experience.

Our interactive display will aim to inspire members of the public to support MND Scotland with a contactless donation, which will cause a personal MND story to unfold on video screens.

MND Action Week is just the beginning of year-long fundraising tour across Scotland’s indoor public spaces, beginning across ScotRail stations during the week, thanks to our official supporters at the ScotRail Alliance.

Parliamentary Reception

On the evening of Tuesday 18th June, we will be holding a reception in the Garden Lobby of the Scottish Parliament, hosted by Bob Doris MSP. He will be joined by Minister for Older People & Equalities, Christina McKelvie MSP, and MND Scotland’s Chairman Lawrence Cowan.

The purpose of the reception is to maintain the high profile of MND in the Scottish Parliament and to give ministers and MSPs an opportunity to hear how they can take action to support people in Scotland affected by MND.

We have sent invites to people with MND across Scotland to attend the reception. On the evening, our staff members will pair up people affected by MND with MSPs so that they have the opportunity to raise issues and ask them to take action.

If you have any questions about the reception, please get in touch with our Policy Officer, Colette McDiarmid, at colette.mcdiarmid@mndscotland.org.uk or call on 0141 332 3903.

The Scottish Sun Charity Bus Tour

The Scottish Sun is hitting the road for a charity tour of Scotland, in their big red bus, for MND Action Week.

The big double decker, mockingly called “Bussy McBussface”, will be pulling into towns across Scotland, from 17th – 21st June, to take MND Scotland fundraising directly to the public.

They’ll have a mobile charity store on-board the bus, with a tombola full of fantastic charity prizes to be won. The Scottish Sun will also be calling on special celebs to make appearances across the tour to add extra star power to their efforts.

Every penny raised will be donated to MND Scotland, so keep your eyes peeled in the Scottish Sun for more details of where they’ll be popping up and when.

If you are able to volunteer to help out, please contact lynn.kernan@thesun.co.uk with the subject “Volunteer”.

Volunteer

We’re looking for committed volunteers to organise bucket collections at ScotRail stations across Scotland to talk about Motor Neurone Disease and to raise funds towards a cure.

If you would like to organise or join a bucket collection, please contact Morag McGown at morag.mcgown@mndscotland.org.uk or call on 0141 332 3903.
