MND Awareness Week is on the 18th – 24th June 2018, with Global MND Awareness Day taking place on Thursday 21st June.
As usual we’ll be trying to raise as much awareness across the country as possible, of what MND is and how it affects people here in Scotland and around the world. So what’s going on and how can you get involved?
For the second year, we’ll be teaming-up with our official charity partner, the ScotRail Alliance, to help spread awareness at stations across the country.
We will have bucket collections at railway stations across Scotland on Thursday 21st June and we are in need of amazing volunteers to shake buckets, hand out badges and Cornflower seeds and help us raise awareness of MND!
We will be collecting at the following stations:
- Aberdeen
- Ayr
- Dundee
- Edinburgh Haymarket
- Edinburgh Waverley
- Glasgow Central
- Glasgow Queen Street
- Inverness
- Johnstone
- Motherwell
- Paisley
If you think you can help, please get in touch with Morag McGown at morag.mcgown@mndscotland.org.uk or give her a wee call on 0141 332 3903.
We’re also looking for 4 volunteers to help out with bag packing at at M&S Silverburn (Glasgow) on Saturday 23rd June from 11am – 4pm. If you can help, please contact Morag using the details above!
What else can I do?
Our friends at the ScotRail Alliance will be doing a dress-down day, on Global MND Awareness Day, to help raise funds for MND Scotland. Their theme will be ‘the best of Scottish’, so if you’re taking a train be sure to share your photos with us of ScotRail staff members rising to the occasion!
Why not organise your own event at work, be it a dress-down day, a bake sale, raffle or tombola?
Our fundraising team will be pleased to help you out with buckets, collection cans, t-shirts and any other fundraising support you need. Get in touch with the fundraising team at fundraising@mndscotland.org.uk or give them a bell on 0141 332 3903.
You can also share your personal story with MND by getting in touch with our team at communications@mndscotland.org.uk or call 0141 332 3903. You can also share your story on social media using the hashtag #MNDAware and by tagging us at @MNDScotland.

What else is happening?
Myth-Busting MND – MND Scotland’s 2018 Awareness Week campaign
Each year, for MND Awareness Week, we work to highlight the stories of people affected by MND in the press. The purpose of this is to spread awareness of MND and to share the physical and emotional challenges of those affected by this devastating disease.
This year, these personal stories will tie into a wider multimedia awareness campaign aimed at highlighting and challenging some of the stigmas and misconceptions which exist around MND.
These stories will feature across the national, regional and local press to reach the maximum number of people. They will also be published online, on the MND Scotland website, and shared via our social media channels.
Elsewhere, our campaign will include multimedia content to maximise our engagement with the general public.
The campaign will feature a variety of animated kinetic text videos, produced to be short, shareable and engaging on the theme of myth-busting MND.
Videos will appear as posts and adverts across all social media channels and will also be used on the MND Scotland website. We will also work with our official corporate partner, the ScotRail Alliance, to share these to a wider public audience.

Scottish Parliament Reception
On the evening of Wednesday 20th June, we will be hosting a reception in the Garden Lobby of the Scottish Parliament, hosted by longstanding supporter Christina McKelvie MSP.
Guest speakers will include the Minister for Public Health Aileen Campbell and a representative of MND Scotland.
Our aim is to raise awareness of MND in the Parliament and ensure MSPs and Scottish Government ministers know how they can support people affected by MND across Scotland. We have sent invites to people with MND across Scotland and we hope to see them there.
Our staff will try to pair up people affected by MND with their MSPs so that they have the opportunity to raise issues that are important to them.
If you have any questions about the reception, please get in touch with our Policy Officer, Colette McDiarmid, at colette.mcdiarmid@mndscotland.org.uk or call on 0141 332 3903.
